Bus Conductor Attacked, Robbed at Hinjilicut Terminal
Hinjilicut, April 25: A bus conductor was brutally attacked and robbed at the Hinjilicut bus terminal in Ganjam district on Saturday morning, sparking outrage among locals over rising hooliganism at the busy transport hub.
The private bus (OD07BA 6737), operating between Bhanjanagar and Berhampur, had halted at the terminal when a group of youths confronted conductor Dipak Gouda of Udrara village.
After he resisted their demands, the assailants abused and assaulted him, snatching his gold chain and cash.
One attacker, identified as Dipu Das of Patana Sahi, struck Gouda’s head with a stone, leaving him seriously injured.
The bus helper, Gangadhar Pradhan, was also beaten while trying to intervene.
Local residents rushed to rescue the victims and admitted them to the Hinjilicut Sub‑Divisional Hospital.
Gouda later lodged a complaint at the Hinjilicut police station, alleging robbery and assault.
The incident has triggered widespread concern, with residents criticising authorities for failing to curb repeated cases of harassment, extortion, and violence at the terminal.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack.
