BSF IG Issues Stern Warning to Maoists: Odisha Targets Naxal-Free Status by March 2026
Bhubaneswar, Nov 29 — In a decisive move against Maoist insurgency, Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General Shiv Adhar Srivastava has declared that Odisha will be made completely Naxal-free by March 2026.
Addressing the media in Bhubaneswar, Srivastava warned Maoists to surrender or face encounters, underscoring the government’s zero-tolerance approach.
The BSF has intensified operations following the neutralisation of top Maoist leader Hidma, with 19 insurgents eliminated, 8 arrested, and 6 surrendering this year alone. Srivastava emphasised that intelligence inputs suggest more cadres are ready to lay down arms.
Joint operations with Odisha Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), District Voluntary Force (DVF), and other central forces are being conducted with advanced technology and strategic redeployments to secure vulnerable areas.
Alongside enforcement, rehabilitation programs are being offered to reintegrate surrendered Maoists into mainstream society, providing opportunities for education, employment, and stability.
Srivastava expressed confidence in achieving the 2026 target, stating that coordinated efforts will not only strengthen security but also pave the way for development in previously affected regions. “Through rehabilitation and societal reintegration, we aim to open new doors for peace and progress in Odisha,” he assured.
