Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 12: The body of Om Prakash Rath, a 21-year-old physiotherapy student, was discovered floating in a water-filled stone quarry in Tapang near Jatni, located in Odisha’s Khurda district, around 8:35 am on Friday.
Sources indicated that the body has been recovered, and efforts were made to inform his family for identification.
Om Prakash Rath was presumed drowned after attempting to rescue his friend who had fallen into the water while shooting videos on Monday afternoon. Despite extensive efforts by multiple rescue teams over the next three days, including the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Odisha Fire and Emergency Service, INS Chilika, and NDRF, he remained untraceable. Additionally, a startup from the National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Rourkela employed a robot and sound navigation and ranging (sonar) system in the search operation.
Hailing from Ranapur in Nayagarh district, Om was pursuing a physiotherapy course at the Abhinav Bindra Sports Medicine and Research Institute (ABSMARI) near Pahal, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
