BJD Leads Protest Over Fertilizer Shortage in Odisha | Farmers Demand Urgent Action
Bhubaneswar, Sept 15, 2025 — The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) launched a high-voltage protest outside Raj Bhavan on Monday, demanding swift action to resolve the fertiliser crisis plaguing farmers across Odisha.
Hundreds of party workers, leaders, and farmer representatives rallied in solidarity, accusing the central administration of failing to ensure a timely supply despite repeated assurances.
Tensions flared as demonstrators attempted to march toward Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati. Police intervened, leading to a brief scuffle before senior BJD leaders were permitted to meet the Governor and present their demands.
BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera lambasted the government’s inaction, stating, “The administration is playing politics while farmers suffer. We demand immediate intervention to restore fertiliser supply.”
The party warned that if the issue remains unresolved, the agitation will intensify and spread to block levels across the state. With the sowing season approaching, the protest underscores growing unrest among cultivators and mounting pressure on the government to act.
