BJD Expels Pravat Biswal for Indiscipline and Anti-Party Activities

Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has expelled former Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal for indiscipline and anti-party activities.

The order, signed by Vice President (Headquarters) Pratap Jena on behalf of party president Naveen Patnaik, came after Biswal openly criticised the party’s Rajya Sabha candidate selections.

Biswal had demanded nominations for V.K. Pandian and Sujata Karthikeyan Pandian, questioning the credentials of the chosen candidates and raising concerns about alleged financial irregularities.

His dissent escalated when he and his son, MLA Souvic Biswal, staged a protest at Naveen Niwas against senior leader Santrupt Misra’s candidature.

The former MLA also clashed with Athagarh legislator Ranendra Pratap Swain during internal discussions, requiring intervention by MP Sasmit Patra.

Analysts say the expulsion underscores BJD’s zero-tolerance approach to public dissent at a time when the party is preparing for crucial Rajya Sabha polls.
