Bijepur SI Caught Red-Handed Accepting Bribe from Scrap Dealer, Odisha Vigilance Launches Probe
Bargarh, Odisha – August 25, (OT Webdesk): In a swift anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended Sub-Inspector Jagaa Bariha of Bijepur Police Station while accepting a Rs 7,000 bribe from a local scrap dealer.
The officer had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to allow the dealer to operate without legal interference, later reducing the demand to Rs 7,000 with threats of “strong action” if unpaid.
Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Bariha red-handed. The tainted money was recovered from his possession, and simultaneous searches were conducted at three locations linked to him to assess assets disproportionate to his known income.
A case has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing.
This incident underscores the state’s continued crackdown on corruption within law enforcement ranks.
