Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 13: Commissionerate Police has apprehended a notorious gang of robbers, as announced by Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda, in a press conference on Thursday. The gang, comprising five members including leader Ayushman, operated primarily in Bhubaneswar with most members residing in Jatni. Their modus operandi involved targeting highway travelers, particularly women, for the theft of gold chains.
Authorities seized a total of 40 gold chains weighing 400 grams, along with Rs 2 lakh in cash and four motorcycles from the suspects. The gang’s criminal activities spanned routes from Bhubaneswar to Bhadrak, Ganjam, and Puri. Over the past four months alone, they were responsible for 24 reported incidents of robbery. Post-robbery, the gang would sell the stolen gold chains, using the proceeds to purchase luxury items like expensive clothing and shoes, and staying in upscale hotels. Their social media presence was noted as part of their lifestyle.
Commissioner Panda noted that the gang had previous cases registered against them in Berhampur, Khurda, Ganjam, and Puri. They frequently changed the number plates of their vehicles to evade detection after committing robberies.
