Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Corridor Cries for Metro Rail: Congress MLA Sofia Firdous Raises Alarm
Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: Traffic congestion between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack has once again sparked debate over the urgent need for a metro rail system.
Congress MLA Sofia Firdous, representing Barabati-Cuttack, has strongly demanded the immediate implementation of the long-delayed metro rail project after experiencing a harrowing traffic jam on the Rasulgarh flyover.
Firdous described the situation as “total anarchy” and a “nightmare,” pointing out that commuters are increasingly frustrated by the worsening traffic chaos in the twin cities.
She emphasised that despite Rs 200 crore already spent on the project, progress has stalled, leaving citizens without relief.
Highlighting the rapid urbanisation and rising vehicle numbers in the corridor, Firdous urged the state government to expedite the metro rail initiative.
She argued that modern public transport infrastructure is essential to ease congestion, improve mobility, and support the region’s economic growth.
Her call has reignited public discourse on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack metro rail, a project seen as critical to transforming urban transport in Odisha.
