Banks Remain Open Despite Nationwide Strike by Employees

Despite a nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), banks across India will remain open today, ensuring continuity of essential services.

The strike, organised to press for a five-day workweek with all Saturdays declared holidays, has drawn participation from employees in several states, including Odisha.

Authorities have clarified that banking operations will not be disrupted, easing concerns among customers.

While core services such as ATM withdrawals, internet banking, and mobile banking will function normally, minor delays may occur in cash deposits, cheque clearance, and counter-based transactions.

The UFBU has long demanded a five-day workweek, raising the issue in discussions with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the government.

Employees staged demonstrations to highlight their demands, but officials assured that customers would not face major inconvenience.

In Odisha, employees joined the protest, but no large-scale disruption was reported. The government and IBA are expected to continue talks with unions to reach a resolution.

Customers are advised to rely on digital banking services for convenience during the strike.
