Baleshwar Quarry Sealed After Tragedy Under BNS‑163

Authorities in Nilagiri have sealed an abandoned quarry near Mitrapur following the recovery of two bodies from its waters.

The Sub‑Collector invoked BNS‑163, a legal provision that prohibits recreational activities such as video shoots, picnics, or casual visits at the site.

Officials emphasised that unauthorised entry will be treated as a violation, with offenders facing arrest.

The move comes amid growing concerns that abandoned quarries are becoming unsafe gathering spots despite repeated warnings.

The administration has urged residents to cooperate and avoid venturing into the restricted area, stressing that public safety remains the top priority.
