Ama Bus Accident in Cuttack Leaves 15 Injured, Sparks Safety Concerns
Cuttack, — In the early hours of Tuesday, tragedy struck near Chhatilagada under Tangi police limits when an Ama Bus collided with a stationary tanker on National Highway 16.
The bus, part of Odisha’s state-run urban transport system, was en route to Cuttack City when it rammed into the parked vehicle, leaving at least 15 passengers injured, two of them critically.
Eyewitnesses claim the bus was speeding beyond its mandated 40 km/h limit, and the driver failed to manoeuvre away from the tanker in time. The impact shattered the front bumper and windshields, causing injuries from broken glass to passengers seated near the windows.
Local residents and police responded swiftly, evacuating the injured and transporting them to Tangi Community Health Centre and nearby private hospitals.
Two critically injured passengers were referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for specialised care. The remaining passengers are reported to be stable.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, examining possible driver negligence or technical failure. The bus has been seized for inspection, and statements are being recorded from passengers and the driver.
This marks the second major Ama Bus incident in a month, raising serious concerns about safety protocols and driver training within Odisha’s public transport system.
