208 Maoists Lay Down Arms in Chhattisgarh, Embrace Peace in Presence of CM Vishnu Deo Sai

In a landmark development, 208 Maoists surrendered in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, marking a significant step toward peace in the region.

The surrender ceremony, held in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, saw former insurgents renounce violence and pledge to reintegrate into mainstream society.

Among the surrendered were over 150 Maoists from the Indravati and Maad divisions, led by central committee member Rupesh, who carried a bounty of over Rs 50 lakh.

The event was secured with heavy police and paramilitary presence, especially along the Indravati river route, to ensure safety and prevent disruptions.

This mass surrender follows similar defections in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli, where top Maoist leader Bhupati alias Venugopal recently laid down arms with 61 cadres.

The trend signals a growing disillusionment among lower-rung Maoist members, who are increasingly abandoning jungle warfare for rehabilitation and state support.

The Chhattisgarh government has reiterated its commitment to rehabilitation and development in affected areas, aiming to transform former conflict zones into hubs of progress and opportunity.
