12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya express derail in Odisha,1 Dead, 3 Injured

Bhubaneswar, Mar 30 :One person died and three were injured after the 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi Station in the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway Section of Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway at approximately 1154 Sunday.
A ECOR statement said ”In a tragic incident today, the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi Station, resulting in the unfortunate death of one passenger and leaving three others injured. The accident occurred early this morning, and immediate rescue operations were launched by local authorities.”
The statement said one ”Suvankar Roy, Male, 22 year, tragically lost his life in the incident. One female passenger suffered grievous injury, and two other male passengers are being treated for simple injury.
The Railway announced an Ex-gratia of Rs 5,00,000/- to the next of the kins of the deceased, 2,50,000/- for grievous and ?50,000/- for Simple injuries.
Immediate medical assistance has been provided to the injured passengers, and the necessary compensation has been paid to the victims’ families, the ECOR said.
Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will hold the detailed inquiry of the incident of derailment of coaches of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy to the affected routes as soon as possible. Safety protocols have been strictly followed during the rescue operations.
The Railway extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Eastern Circle, Kolkata under the Ministry of Civil Aviation Brijesh Mishra will inspect the derailment site of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express tonight.
Meanwhile Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi taking to his social media post said ”reviewed the condition of the injured passengers from the Kamakhya Express derailment near Nirgundi station in # cuttack. The Odisha government will ensure they receive the best medical care and cover all health care expenses. wishing them a speedy recovery. Rescue and relief operations remain a priority.The movement of train was affected for some time after 11 coaches of the 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast express were derailed at around 1154hrs Sunday.
Upon receiving the information, General Manager (GM), East Coast Railway and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Khurda Road and other senior officials rushed to the derailment site to oversee the relief and restoration work.
The personnel of the NDRF, Fire Brigade, Police, and local people reached the spot helped in the rescue and relief operation and restoration work. They also distributed food and water to the stranded passengers.
After the necessary restoration work the train movement was restored.
A Special Train left the site with Stranded passengers towards Kamakhya.
Railway sources said due to the derailment only down Line Trains are running in diverted route via Barang-Nergundi-Kapilas Road instead of Barang-Cuttack-Nergundi.
As many as 21 Mail Express Trains are running in the Howrah-Visakhapatnam UP Line. Down Line trains are diverted via Barang-Naraj-Kapilas Road instead of the usual Barang-Cuttack-Nergundi route
Three MEMU trains 68408 Bhubaneswar-Baleswar MEMU, 68414 Puri-Talcher MEMU
and 68444 Daspalla-Bhadrak MEMU will bypass Cuttack-Nergundi and run via the Barang-Naraj route.
The ECOR issued helpline number for passenger assistance at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khurda Road, Bhadrak, Palasa,and Jajpur, and Keonjhar Road.
To ensure minimal disruption to railway operations, five down trains from Bhubaneswar towards Bhadrak will be diverted via Barang-Nergundi-Kapilas Road instead of the usual Cuttack-Kendrapara Road-Nergundi route, ECOR sources said.
The trains which would be diverted are 12822 Puri-Howrah Dhauli Express,12875 Puri-Anand Vihar Neelachal Express,22606 Tirunelveli-Purulia Express,12704 Secunderabad-Howrah Falaknuma Express and 12513 Secunderabad-Silchar Express.(UNI)
