Zero Fatality Fortnight Odisha: Strict Road Safety Drive from Nov 16–30
The Odisha government has announced the launch of Zero Fatality Fortnight, a statewide campaign running from November 16 to 30, 2025, aimed at reducing road accidents and fatalities.
The initiative, spearheaded by Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, emphasises the four critical pillars of road safety—Enforcement, Engineering, Education, and Emergency Care.
During the fortnight, a zero‑tolerance policy will be enforced against traffic rule violators.
Regional Transport Offices, in collaboration with district administrations and police, will conduct strict vehicle checks and enforcement drives at high‑traffic zones such as schools, malls, and marketplaces. Reckless driving and violations under the Motor Vehicles Act will face immediate action.
Special attention will be given to accident‑prone roads, with engineering agencies tasked to rectify defects and install proper signage.
Public awareness campaigns will educate citizens on safe driving practices, while NGOs and community groups will join hands with the government to spread the message. Citizens are also encouraged to assist accident victims promptly to save lives.
Building on the success of the previous Zero Fatality Week, which saw a significant drop in accident deaths, the government has extended the campaign to a fortnight this year.
The initiative aligns with Odisha’s vision of a Developed Odisha, where road safety is treated as a collective responsibility. Chief Minister’s appeal—“Return Home Safely”—is being widely promoted to remind every citizen that even one life lost is too many.
