Zero Fatality Fortnight Odisha 2025: Statewide Drive for Safer Roads
In a determined bid to curb the alarming rise in road fatalities, the State Transport Authority of Odisha has rolled out the Zero Fatality Fortnight campaign from November 16 to 30, 2025.
Coinciding with World Remembrance Day for Road Traffic Victims, the initiative seeks to achieve zero road deaths during the fortnight through strict enforcement of traffic rules and widespread awareness drives.
The launch event at the Driving Testing Track in Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, brought together key officials, including Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department; Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur; and Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh.
Padhee described road fatalities as a “grave concern” requiring collective responsibility beyond government measures. Thakur likened the epidemic of road crashes to the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that adherence to rules can save lives.
Singh emphasised that driver errors and lax attitudes toward safety are major causes of accidents, pledging intensified enforcement and awareness campaigns over the next 15 days.
The campaign features tributes to accident victims, an awareness mobile van touring the state, and a student-led road safety march to highlight the role of youth in building safer roads.
Regional Transport Officers, district administrations, and police departments will collaborate to organise events across Odisha.
With a unified front of officials, students, and citizens, the initiative calls on every road user to follow safety protocols and contribute to an accident-free society.
