Youth sentenced to 20 Years RI by POCSO court for kidnapping, raping minor girl
Kendrapara, Aug 6 (UNI) In a significant judgment, Prangya Parmita Raul, Additional District & Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge under the POCSO Act, today sentenced a youth to 20 years
of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs.. 60,000 for kidnapping and raping a minor girl.
The judge further ordered that if the convict failed to pay the fine, he would have to undergo an additional one year of Rigorous Imprisonment.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar Sahoo, the incident took place on November 5 last year, when the accused, Ananda, allegedly kidnapped a 13-year-old girl while she was on her way to school under the Sadar police station.
Following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, Sadar police registered a case, rescued the minor girl, and apprehended the accused from the Anandapur bus stand.
Both the girl and the accused were subjected to medical examinations. The accused was then arrested and produced before the court.
During the trial, the court examined 11 witnesses. After reviewing the evidence and cross-examinations, the judge convicted the accused under relevant sections of the POCSO Act Additionally, the court recommended that the state government provide compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the victim for her rehabilitation.
The Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kendrapara, was directed to initiate steps for the sanction and disbursal of the compensation amount.
