Youth electrocuted while attempting to steal coal from train in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: A tragic incident occurred at Gurudijhatia railway station in the Athagarh area of Cuttack district on Friday morning when a youth was electrocuted while trying to steal coal from a stationary goods train. The deceased is yet to be identified, but locals suspect he was a resident of Chha village in the area.
According to sources, a coal-laden goods train had halted at the station yard when the youth attempted to climb onto one of the wagons to steal coal. In his attempt, he accidentally came in contact with a high-voltage overhead electric wire, resulting in instant electrocution. His charred body remained on the spot for a long time before railway authorities were alerted.
Upon receiving information, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and Government Railway Police (GRP) reached the site and sent the body for post-mortem. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to verify the circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
Meanwhile, railway officials have urged the public to stay away from goods trains and overhead wires, highlighting the life-threatening dangers of unauthorized access to railway property.
