Youth Battles for Life After Setting Himself Ablaze in Berhampur Following Cryptic Instagram Post

Berhampur, — A shocking incident unfolded at Methu Chhak under Bada Bazar police limits, where a young man, Suraj Sahu, allegedly set himself on fire in a public area. The act, which has left the community stunned, followed a cryptic Instagram post that read, “If something happens to me, no one is responsible.”

Suraj sustained 80% burn injuries and was initially admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where he remains in critical care.

Police responded swiftly to the scene and rescued Suraj, but the motive behind the self-immolation remains unclear.

Authorities have launched a full investigation, questioning family members and examining the social media post for clues. Senior officials, including the Berhampur SP, have visited both the site and the hospital.

The incident has sparked conversations around mental health awareness and the importance of recognising distress signals on social media. As the investigation continues, the community hopes for Suraj’s recovery and greater attention to youth mental well-being.
