Youth Allegedly Murdered at Cuttack De-Addiction Centre; Four Inmates Detained
Cuttack, October 21, 2025: A shocking incident unfolded at a de-addiction centre in Uttamapur under Cuttack Sadar police limits, where a young man, Soumya Ranjan Das, was allegedly murdered by fellow inmates.
The victim, who had been undergoing treatment for mental stress, was reportedly strangled following a dispute.
Soumya, a resident of Jatani Raja Bazaar, had joined the centre three months ago after quitting his job. Family sources say he had repeatedly expressed a desire to leave the facility, citing mental distress.
According to preliminary reports, four inmates attacked Soumya, allegedly provoked by his calm demeanour. Police have detained all four accused and launched an investigation into the centre’s operations.
Some staff members have also been taken into custody for questioning.
Cuttack Sadar police, along with forensic experts, are probing the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities are examining whether negligence or systemic lapses contributed to the tragedy.
This incident has raised serious concerns about safety protocols and oversight at rehabilitation centres across the state.
