Yellow Alert: IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms in Odisha Till August 8

(OT webdesk)The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts in Odisha from August 3 to August 8, 2025.

The warning follows the southeastward extension of the monsoon trough toward the northeast Bay of Bengal, which is expected to trigger widespread rain activity.

On August 3 and 4, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are forecast for districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

The alert extends to Rayagada and Koraput on August 4 and 5.

Temperature extremes were also recorded, with Nayagarh logging the highest maximum temperature at 37.0°C, while Phulbani and Nabarangpur saw the lowest minimum at 22.0°C.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to lightning strikes, waterlogging, and slippery roads.
