Women EV Bus Drivers Odisha Make History with AMA Bus Induction

Odisha has marked a historic milestone in urban mobility as 20 women drivers returned after completing intensive electric bus training in Pune.

The program, held at EKKA Mobility’s plant from February 2–14, was supported by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and focused on advanced EV handling, safety protocols, and modern urban operations.

The drivers will now undergo a 15‑day local practice and route familiarisation program before being formally inducted into AMA Bus Services as an all‑women crew.

Officials emphasised that this initiative is not just about driving skills but about leadership, dignity, and equal opportunity.

By empowering women in a traditionally male‑dominated sector, Odisha is setting a precedent for gender‑inclusive public transport while advancing environmental sustainability.

The move is expected to inspire more women to step into public service roles and strengthen the state’s commitment to equitable, future‑ready urban mobility.
