Bhubaneswar, (Orissa today), Nov 19: Police in Balasore district, Odisha, have arrested a woman brown sugar peddler, known as “Scooty Didi,” and seized a significant quantity of contraband from her house. The woman, identified as Ruksana Biwi, hails from Seikhbad under Jaleswar Municipality. She had been on the police radar for some time but had managed to evade capture.
Following instructions from the Balasore SP, a 15-member police team, led by Ranjan Kumar Sethi, the IIC of Jaleswar police station, raided Ruksana’s house. During the raid, they recovered a large cache of brown sugar and arrested Ruksana. Her parents were also taken into custody for questioning.
Sources revealed that Ruksana had taken over her husband’s illegal drug operation after his arrest by Kolkata Police 20 months ago. She sourced the brown sugar from a relative in West Bengal and another smuggler in Rajpur village under Jaleswar police station. Known as “Scooty Didi” in the criminal world, she used a scooty to transport and sell the contraband directly to customers and other traders in Jaleswar, its neighboring areas, and West Bengal.
