Woman Arrested for Creating Fake Instagram Account in Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda: The Cyber Crime and Economic Offences Police Station in Jharsuguda has arrested a woman for allegedly creating a fake Instagram account and posting misleading content by impersonating another person on social media.
The accused, identified as Mahamaya Biswal (38), wife of Umashankar Mallik of Aradi Chowk on Canal Road in Bhadrak district, was arrested on Thursday in connection with CC & EO PS Jharsuguda Case No. 02/2026 registered under Sections 79 and 319(2) of the BNS read with Section 67 of the IT Act.
The case was registered following a complaint filed by Debendra Kumar Nayak of Gumadera in Belpahar.
In his complaint, Nayak alleged that an unknown person had created a fake Instagram account using his name and profile photograph without his consent.
The account was allegedly used to post misleading and derogatory content aimed at damaging his reputation among friends, relatives and acquaintances.
During the investigation, Jharsuguda Cyber Police carried out technical analysis and traced the origin of the fake account. Based on digital evidence, Biswal was identified as the accused and subsequently apprehended.
Police said the accused was arrested and forwarded to court today. Further investigation into the case is underway.
