VKSA will bring farmers of country into economic mainstream: CM Majhi

Puri, May 29 (UNI) Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), a groundbreaking and historic initiative of the Government of India, will bring farmers into the economic mainstream of society, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Thursday.

He stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare launched the VKSA at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Sakshi Gopal by planting saplings under the “Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam” campaign.

Majhi said that through this campaign, the government aims to reach about 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts in the country, raising awareness about the application of new agricultural technologies.

He added that three teams will be formed at the district level, comprising scientists and officials from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, who will jointly educate rural farmers on agriculture, horticulture, and soil conservation.

Each team will visit two villages daily and meet with 250 farmers in each village to explain the farmer welfare schemes of both the Central and State Governments. They will also discuss various programs, initiatives, and practical aspects of new knowledge and skills with the farmers.

The Chief Minister emphasized that steps will be taken to ensure that research-based agricultural information reaches the grassroots. Farmers will be educated on soil health testing, the use of soil health cards, fertilizer management, and climate-resilient agriculture.

He further said that the state government has taken several historic steps to ensure better prices for farmers and to include them in the economic mainstream.

On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, said that Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is a unique initiative aimed at empowering farmers through modern and mechanized means.
