Visakhapatnam Railway Station Unveils ECoR’s First Sleeping Pod Facility
Visakhapatnam, July 11(OT webdesk) — In a first for the East Coast Railway (ECoR) zone, Visakhapatnam Railway Station has launched an innovative ‘sleeping pod’ facility to offer safe, comfortable, and affordable short-stay options to transit passengers, tourists, and solo women travellers.
Inaugurated by Waltair Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra, the pod setup mimics capsule hotel designs and aims to enhance convenience at one of the busiest junctions in the region.
The facility, located near Gate No. 3 on Platform No. 1, features:
- 73 single pods
- 15 double pods
- 18 pods exclusively reserved for women
Amenities include secure access, dedicated washrooms and dressing areas, free Wi-Fi, 24×7 hot water, a snack bar, and a travel desk.
- Single pods: Rs 200 for 3 hours / Rs 400 for 24 hours
- Double pods: Rs 300 for 3 hours / Rs 600 for 24 hours
While primarily catering to railway passengers, the facility is also open to non-passengers based on availability.
This sleeping pod initiative marks a key step in Visakhapatnam’s station redevelopment blueprint, which includes a 72-metre air concourse with retail spaces and seamless integration with the upcoming Metro Rail.
The upgrade reinforces Visakhapatnam’s role as a forward-looking commuter hub in India’s railway network.
