Virat Kohli Silences Retirement Rumors with Powerful Message Ahead of Australia ODIs
India’s cricket icon Virat Kohli has reaffirmed his commitment to international cricket, sharing a motivational post on X (formerly Twitter) just hours after arriving in Perth for the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
The post, which read, “The only time you truly fail is when you decide to give up,” comes amid speculation surrounding Kohli’s future following his retirement from T20Is and recent departure from Test cricket.
Kohli, 36, has been named in India’s 50-over squad for the three-match series beginning October 19 at Optus Stadium. His inclusion, alongside veteran Rohit Sharma, signals the team’s continued reliance on experienced players despite ongoing discussions about long-term planning.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified that the Australia series will not mark the end of Kohli’s or Sharma’s international careers.
Both are expected to feature in the home series against South Africa starting November 30, the New Zealand tour in January 2026, and select Vijay Hazare Trophy matches in December.
The Indian team arrived in Perth in two batches, with Kohli, Rohit, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer leading the first group. Training is set to resume Friday after a day of rest.
Kohli’s post not only quells retirement chatter but also sets the tone for a high-stakes series where he aims to prove his mettle in the 50-over format once again.
