Before stepping into the world of cinema in the 1980s, Potdar served in the Indian Armed Forces and later worked with Indian Oil.

His transition to acting marked the beginning of a prolific career spanning over four decades, with more than 125 films to his credit across Hindi and Marathi cinema.

Potdar’s filmography includes acclaimed titles such as Tezaab, Parinda, Rangeela, Vaastav, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, and Ventilator.

His portrayal of the professor in 3 Idiots remains a pop culture touchstone, with his line “kya baat hai” still echoing across social media.
