Union Budget 2026–27 Highlights: Odisha’s Role in Minerals, Waterways, and Eco-Tourism
The Union Budget 2026–27 has placed Odisha at the centre of India’s growth story, unveiling a series of initiatives that strengthen the state’s role in minerals, logistics, and eco-tourism.
The Finance Minister announced support for rare-earth corridors in mineral-rich states, with Odisha positioned as a critical supplier for semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries.
This move is expected to boost industrial competitiveness and attract global investments.
In a major push for sustainable logistics, the government will operationalise 20 new national waterways over the next five years.
The rollout begins with National Waterway-5 in Odisha, linking Talcher and Angul’s mineral hubs with Kalinganagar’s industrial clusters and Paradeep and Dhamra ports.
The project promises reduced carbon emissions, faster cargo movement, and enhanced industrial growth.
Odisha’s coastline also received attention with the launch of eco-tourism initiatives. “Turtle trails” will be developed along olive ridley nesting sites at Gahirmatha Beach and Rushikulya River mouth.
These projects aim to balance biodiversity conservation with livelihood generation, offering safe viewing experiences for tourists while protecting fragile ecosystems.
By combining mineral-based industrial expansion, green logistics, and eco-tourism, the Budget positions Odisha as a strategic hub for sustainable development.
Analysts say the initiatives will not only strengthen India’s supply chains but also create new opportunities for local communities across the state.
