Unidentified Youth Found Dead in Purushottam Express Toilet Near Bhubaneswar Station

Bhubaneswar, August 30: In a disturbing incident that has raised serious questions about railway safety, the body of an unidentified youth—believed to be around 30 years old—was discovered inside the toilet of the Purushottam Express near Bhubaneswar railway station early Saturday morning.

The grim discovery was made during routine cleaning after the train’s arrival. Railway staff immediately alerted senior officials, prompting swift action from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF).

A forensic team was dispatched to examine the coach and collect evidence.

Authorities have yet to identify the deceased, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem to determine the cause and time of death.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and cross-checking missing person reports from nearby regions. All possibilities—including foul play, accident, or self-harm—are being explored.

This marks the second such incident in less than a month. Earlier, a youth named Shiv Kumar from Uttar Pradesh was found dead in the toilet of the Bhubaneswar–Delhi Duronto Express.

The recurrence has sparked alarm among passengers and intensified calls for enhanced surveillance and security measures across Odisha’s railway stations.

Public sentiment is growing increasingly uneasy, with many urging railway authorities to implement stricter safety protocols and improve monitoring systems to prevent such tragedies.
