May 8, 2025( OT Webdesk) – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued an urgent public advisory dismissing a fraudulent notice circulating online, which falsely claims that all university examinations across India have been cancelled due to a “war-like situation.”
The fabricated document, which rapidly spread across social media platforms, also urged students to vacate their campuses and return home.
However, the UGC has categorically stated that the notice is entirely false and has advised students to remain cautious against such misinformation.
In an official statement, the UGC emphasised that all legitimate updates regarding university exams will be communicated only through its official website and verified social media handles.
The commission also warned that the deliberate spread of false information is punishable under Indian law.
The misleading notice emerged following India’s Operation Sindoor, a strategic military campaign targeting terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The operation led to heightened tensions, including ceasefire violations by Pakistan, which prompted a calibrated response from the Indian Army.
Authorities are urging students and the public to verify information only from trusted sources and report any instances of misinformation.
The UGC’s prompt response aims to prevent unnecessary panic among students preparing for their upcoming examinations
