Udayagiri Light and Sound Show Set to Dazzle Bhubaneswar Visitors by Year-End
Bhubaneswar: The long-awaited Udayagiri Light and Sound Show is finally nearing its public debut, promising to transform the historic Udayagiri Hill into a vibrant cultural spectacle.
Developed by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), the immersive experience will be staged in front of Rani Gumpha, blending cutting-edge lighting and surround sound with Odisha’s ancient heritage.
The show features five-microphone surround sound and dynamic visual projections that will illuminate the rock-cut architecture of the Khandagiri–Udayagiri caves. Comfortable seating has been arranged to ensure an engaging experience for visitors.
Although the project was completed in December 2023, administrative delays—particularly in securing electricity connections—kept the show from launching.
Overgrown vegetation and public criticism prompted authorities to restore the site in accordance with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) guidelines, preserving the monument’s integrity.
Under the current agreement, ITDC will manage maintenance and electricity costs for five years. Ticket revenue will be split 60:40 between ITDC and ASI, ensuring sustainable operations.
Final preparations are underway, and the show is expected to open to tourists by the end of 2025, adding a major attraction to Odisha’s capital.
