Cuttack, April 22, 2025 – In a devastating early-morning accident, two police officers lost their lives when a speeding sand-laden truck crashed into their patrol vehicle on the Cuttack-Paradip road near Gatiroutpatna. The tragic incident took place around 4:45 AM while the officers were on duty.
The deceased officers have been identified as Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF) personnel Lokanath Sabar and home guard Jagannath Mahalik. A third officer sustained severe injuries and was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where his condition remains stable.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was moving at a dangerously high speed when it collided with the police vehicle, completely wrecking the PCR van. Authorities confirmed that the truck driver has been arrested and is currently being questioned. Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns over road safety measures and speeding violations in Odisha. Local authorities are expected to intensify enforcement to prevent such accidents in the future.
