Two Minor Boys Missing in Kathajodi River; Rescue Operation Intensifies in Cuttack

Cuttack, November 2, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday morning when two minor boys from Bhagatpur went missing in the Kathajodi River near Khannagar.

The boys had reportedly gone to the river after attending a local kirtan and were later playing cricket nearby.

According to eyewitnesses, the mishap occurred around 8:30 a.m. when one of the boys entered the river to retrieve a cricket ball and began struggling. The second boy rushed in to help but was also swept away by the strong current and trapped in the sand.

Local residents immediately alerted the authorities. Two teams from Odisha Fire Services and the local police launched an intensive rescue operation using boats and scuba divers.

As of the latest update, the boys remain untraceable, and the search continues.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over safety measures along riverbanks frequently used by children and youth. Locals are urging the administration to install warning signs and conduct regular patrols to prevent such tragedies.
