Two Drivers Killed in Fiery Truck Collision on NH‑520, Sundargarh

Sundargarh: In a tragic incident on National Highway‑520, two truck drivers lost their lives after a head‑on collision triggered a massive fire at Chunaghati near Kundurupani Chhak in the early hours of Saturday.

According to reports, a dump truck and a coal‑laden truck collided around 2 am under K. Balang police limits. The impact was so severe that both vehicles caught fire instantly, engulfing them in flames and reducing them to ashes.

Fire services personnel from Koida, along with local police, rushed to the spot and battled the blaze for hours before bringing it under control.

Police teams later recovered the charred bodies of the two drivers by cutting open the mangled remains of the vehicles with gas cutters.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed, and the bodies have been sent for post‑mortem examination.

The accident caused major traffic disruption on NH‑520, with long queues of stranded vehicles stretching for several hours. Clearance operations were eventually carried out to restore traffic flow.

Locals noted that the accident‑prone stretch near Kundurupani Chhak has witnessed several mishaps in the past, raising concerns about road safety in the region.
