Transgender Woman Murdered in Pipili | Bhubaneswar Protests Demand Justice
Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped Pipili on Sunday after a transgender woman, identified as Anjali alias Sona, was brutally stabbed near Sifa Gate along National Highway-316.
She was rushed to Capital Hospital, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The incident sparked outrage among the transgender community, who staged a road blockade near Airport Road on Monday, demanding swift justice and stronger protection for their members.
The protest caused severe traffic disruption across the city, coinciding with restrictions already in place for the President’s visit.
Transgender activist Meera Parida condemned the police investigation as “lax” and warned of intensified protests if justice is delayed. “We will be forced to take extreme steps if the culprits are not arrested soon,” she said.
Police officials stated that CCTV footage is being reviewed and all angles—including old enmity and internal disputes—are under investigation. Pipili police assured that the accused will be apprehended shortly.
Social organisations also condemned the killing, urging authorities to ensure safety and dignity for the transgender community.
