Train Mishap on Vedanta Rail Line Claims Life of Odisha Man
Rayagada, Odisha — A tragic accident on Vedanta’s private rail corridor near Ambadala claimed the life of Bhagirathi Takri, 59, a resident of Chudipada village.
The incident occurred while Takri was crossing the tracks for work-related purposes when he was struck by a company-operated train.
The impact severed his left leg below the knee. Locals rushed him to Ambadala Government Hospital, where he received initial treatment before being transferred to Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital.
Plans were underway to shift him to Berhampur for advanced care, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with Takri’s wife and son reportedly carrying his severed leg in a bag while accompanying him to the hospital.
Family members, including his wife Sabita Takri, have alleged negligence on the part of the train operators and demanded accountability.
Local police have launched an investigation, recording witness statements and reviewing safety protocols along the industrial rail line. The tragedy has sparked renewed concern among residents about the safety of privately operated rail corridors that pass through populated areas.
Community members are urging authorities to enforce stricter oversight and implement preventive measures to avoid future mishaps.
