TPCODL Engineer Caught in Bribery Case in Bhubaneswar, Rs 9.53 Lakh Seized
In a significant anti-corruption operation, officials from the Odisha Vigilance apprehended Tusharkant Ray, an Executive Engineer (Quality) at Circle-I of TPCODL in Bhubaneswar. He was accused of accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an electrical contractor.
Ray allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for issuing a final inspection report necessary for energizing a newly installed transformer at a residential complex. Sources indicate that the contractor had been waiting for over two months for this report, which was essential for processing his payment. Frustrated by the delays and the demand for money, the contractor approached Vigilance authorities, who arranged a sting operation.
Ray reportedly invited the contractor to his residence and then moved to a nearby park, where he accepted the cash. Vigilance officers, who were monitoring the transaction, intervened promptly and recovered the bribe money.
Subsequent searches at three properties associated with Ray uncovered Rs 9.53 lakh in unaccounted cash. A case has been registered under Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 21, dated September 24, 2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is ongoing.
