Thunderstorms Alert in Odisha: IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Warnings

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts and a yellow warning for Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri as thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong winds, heavy showers, and possible hail are expected.

Odisha has been experiencing nor’wester activity over the past three days, leading to cloudy skies and a drop in daytime temperatures.

On Wednesday, Koraput, Nuapada, and Binika witnessed heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms in Koraput town disrupted electricity supply for nearly two hours.

According to forecasts, thunderstorms are likely to intensify between March 19 and 21, with March 20 expected to bring severe weather across more than half of Odisha’s districts, spanning northern, southern, and central regions.

The IMD has cautioned residents about risks of lightning strikes, heavy rainfall, and disruptions to daily life.

Authorities have urged people to remain alert and take necessary precautions during this period of unstable weather.
