Odisha medical colleges upgraded to AIIMS++ standards

Bhubaneswar, Apr 30 (UNI) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that three government-run medical colleges in Odisha will be upgraded to AIIMS++ standards.
While reviewing the ongoing redevelopment work of government medical colleges and hospitals in the state on Tuesday, Majhi stated that the redevelopment of SCB Medical College in Cuttack is underway with an investment of Rs. 474.49 crore.

The project is targeted for completion by June 2026. Upon completion of the first phase, the bed capacity at SCB Medical College will increase to 3,796.

He further said that Burla Bhima Bhoi Medical College will be upgraded at a cost of Rs. 1,594 crore, MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur at Rs. 1,014.13 crore, and Rourkela Government Hospital at Rs. 627.16 crore. All three institutions will be upgraded to AIIMS++ standards.

Additionally, Rs. 895.89 crore is being invested in the first phase of redevelopment of the Acharya Harihar Postgraduate Cancer Institute and Hospital.

The Chief Minister said that upon completion of the second phase, the hospital’s bed capacity will increase to 1,127.

The bed capacity of Burla Bhima Bhoi Medical College will rise from the current 1,485 to 2,861 after redevelopment. Similarly, the bed capacity of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur will increase from 1,583 to 2,033.

An estimated Rs 627.16 crore has been allocated for the redevelopment of Rourkela Government Hospital, where the bed capacity will grow from 437 to 763 upon completion.

The Bhubaneswar Capital Hospital, the Chief Minister said, will be redeveloped at a cost of Rs. 5,958 crore, increasing its bed capacity from 750 to 2,582.

All these projects will include advanced infrastructure such as modern healthcare facilities, hostels, academic buildings, quarters for patient relatives and staff, sports grounds, and auditoriums, Majhi stated.
