Three Odia Pilgrims Killed in Jammu Road Accident, One Critically Injured

Katra, Jammu & Kashmir – October 17, 2025: A spiritual journey turned tragic for four Odia pilgrims from Subarnapur district, Odisha, as a devastating road accident near Katra claimed three lives and left one critically injured.

The group was en route to the revered Maa Vaishnodevi temple when their vehicle met with a fatal crash on the winding roads leading to the shrine town.

The deceased have been identified as Bichitra Kumar, Yogindra Matari, and Kabita Sahu. Snehalata Matari, the sole survivor, is undergoing intensive treatment at a Jammu hospital, where medical teams are working to stabilise her condition.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene following the accident, though the exact cause remains under investigation by local authorities.

In a swift and compassionate response, the Odisha government has arranged for the airlifting of the victims’ mortal remains.

The Office of the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, in coordination with the Odisha Paribar Directorate and Subarnapur District Administration, is overseeing the repatriation process.

The bodies are expected to arrive in Odisha by evening, where dignified arrangements for the last rites have been assured.

“All possible assistance is being extended to the injured pilgrim,” stated an official from the Odisha Paribar Directorate. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this unimaginable loss.”
