Thousands Displaced as Subarnarekha River Floods Northern Odisha for Sixth Time This Year
Balasore/Bhadrak,— August 25 (OT Webdesk), In a devastating turn of events, the Subarnarekha River has breached its danger mark for the sixth time this year, triggering widespread flooding across northern Odisha.
The river surged to 10.80 meters—well above the danger threshold of 10.36 meters—following relentless rainfall in its upper catchment.
The deluge has submerged dozens of villages in Balasore and Bhadrak districts, with the blocks of Basta, Baliapal, Jaleswar, and Bhograi bearing the brunt.
In Bhograi alone, over 10,000 residents are affected, and five panchayats remain completely cut off due to collapsed road connectivity.
Agricultural devastation is widespread, with paddy and vegetable fields inundated, leaving farmers in despair.
Local administrations have deployed fire and rescue teams to assist with evacuations and relief operations. However, continued rainfall threatens to escalate the crisis further.
Residents are pleading for urgent government intervention as they evacuate their homes and brace for more rainfall.
With connectivity severed and crops submerged, the region faces a humanitarian and economic emergency.
