Ten Nuapada Labourers Freed from Karnataka Brick Kiln Bondage

Ten bonded labourers from Odisha’s Nuapada district were rescued from a brick kiln in Karnataka, shedding light on the persistent issue of debt bondage and migrant exploitation.

According to officials, the group—comprising men and women—had been trafficked under false promises of wages but were instead trapped in exploitative working conditions.

Their ordeal reflects the larger pattern of vulnerable workers from western Odisha migrating to southern states in search of livelihood, only to fall prey to bonded labour practices.

The rescue operation was carried out with the support of local authorities and activists, who ensured the safe release of the labourers.

Rehabilitation measures are now being initiated, with government agencies and NGOs expected to provide assistance for their reintegration.

This incident underscores the urgent need for stronger enforcement of labour laws, awareness campaigns in vulnerable districts, and coordinated interstate action to curb bonded labour.
