Pashamylaram (Telangana), July 1(OT Webdesk): Tragedy struck at Sigachi Industries’ pharmaceutical plant in Pashamylaram on Monday as a suspected chemical reaction triggered a powerful blast, killing at least 34 workers.
The explosion, which flattened major portions of the facility, left many trapped beneath debris, prompting urgent search and rescue operations.
According to Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj, 31 bodies were recovered from the wreckage, while three more victims succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
Rescue teams continue combing through the ruins, hoping to find survivors or recover more bodies.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha are expected to visit the site today.
The state government has promised compensation for the victims’ families and strict action following an in-depth investigation into the incident.
Sigachi Industries, a key manufacturer of APIs, intermediates, and vitamin blends, is now under intense scrutiny as authorities examine the cause and scope of safety lapses.
This catastrophe once again highlights India’s precarious industrial safety standards and lack of emergency preparedness in high-risk sectors.
