Sundargarh: Over 25 Students Fall Ill After Consuming Snacks at School Event
More than 25 students of Salangabuda Panchayat High School in Sundargarh district, Odisha, fell ill after consuming snacks during an awareness programme on Wednesday.
The affected students, mostly from Classes IX and X, developed symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting later that night.
Nineteen girls were admitted to the Majhapada Community Health Centre and the Sundargarh Government Medical College & Hospital after their condition worsened.
Boys also reported illness but recovered after initial treatment.
The snacks—singada and bara—were distributed during the “Ama Police” awareness programme.
However, students also consumed hostel food the same evening, leaving health officials uncertain about the exact cause of the outbreak.
Food samples have been collected for testing, and statements from students and staff are being recorded.
Medical teams are closely monitoring the hospitalised girls, while most of the affected students have shown signs of recovery.
Authorities are investigating whether the illness was triggered by contaminated snacks or hostel meals.
