Sujeet Kumar files nomination as BJP candidate for Rajya Sabha by-poll

Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: Sujeet Kumar submitted his nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Odisha on Monday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.
He filed his nomination papers at the Odisha Legislative Assembly in the presence of prominent party leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singhdeo, BJP state president Manmohan Samal, and Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra.
Earlier in the day, the BJP announced Sujeet as its nominee for Odisha, along with Ryaga Krishnaiah for Andhra Pradesh and Rekha Sharma for Haryana, filling vacant seats in these states.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had declared the by-elections for six Rajya Sabha seats on November 26, with December 10 marking the last day for filing nominations and voting set for December 20.
The seat from Odisha became vacant following Sujeet’s resignation from the Rajya Sabha while he was still a member of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). He left the BJD and joined the BJP in September. This strategy mirrors that of Mamata Mohanta, a senior tribal leader from Mayurbhanj, who also resigned from the BJD and was later elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha as a BJP member.
