Kolkata, November 21: Residents across Kolkata and adjoining districts experienced strong tremors on Friday morning after a 5.5‑magnitude earthquake struck Bangladesh at around 10:10 AM IST.
According to the European‑Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake originated near Dhaka, sending mild to moderate shocks across eastern India.
People reported noticeable shaking in homes, offices, and high‑rise buildings, with similar experiences in Guwahati, Agartala, and Shillong. As of now, no casualties or major damage have been reported.
