STF Odisha arrests drug peddler, seizes over 2,600 litres of Codeine Phosphate
Bhubaneswar, Aug 1 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police has arrested a drug peddler and seized 26,658 bottles containing 2,665.8 litres of Codeine Phosphate, along with Rs.25,41,000 in cash.
Director General of Police (CID-CB) Vinaytosh Mishra informed reporters that, acting on an intelligence input, a raid was conducted by the STF in coordination with the Drug Controller’s Department at two locations—Cuttack and Bhubaneswar—on the evening of July 31 and the morning of August 1.
During the operation, the STF apprehended Ansuman Abhijit Sahoo, a resident of Bharatpur in Khordha district.
The team seized a large consignment of prohibited manufactured drugs (Wincerex cough syrup), comprising 26,658 bottles containing 2,665.8 litres of Codeine Phosphate and Triprolidine Hydrochloride syrup. The drugs were found packed in 93 jari sacks.
The seizure took place at two locations: one in front of Trackon Courier Pvt. Ltd., near New LIC Colony, Badambadi, Cuttack, and the other at Trackon Courier Pvt. Ltd.’s main branch in Mancheswar Industrial Estate, Bhubaneswar.
The accused failed to produce any valid documentation or authorization for the possession of the banned substances. Consequently, he was arrested and is being forwarded to the court of the
District and Sessions Judge, Cuttack.
A case has been registered under Sections 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. During a subsequent house search, the STF recovered and seized cash amounting to Rs 25,41,000.
Further investigation is underway.
