Bhubaneswar, July 24 (UNI): In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Police has arrested a drug peddler and seized 147 kg of ganja along with a Mahindra Thar vehicle from his possession.
The accused, Lalit Bhujabal of Puri, was apprehended during a raid conducted on Wednesday along NH-16 under the Tamando Police Station limits in Bhubaneswar, according to STF sources.
Bhujabal was reportedly transporting the contraband to West Bengal in a black Mahindra Thar when he was intercepted by the STF team. During the search, officials recovered seven plastic sacks containing 147 kg of ganja, concealed inside the vehicle.
The accused failed to produce any valid documents authorising the transport of the narcotic substance.
He was arrested on the spot and is being forwarded to the court of the District & Sessions Judge, Khordha, at Bhubaneswar.
A case has been registered against him under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C), 25, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. According to sources, Bhujabal is a repeat offender and has previously been arrested in connection with several criminal cases.
