State-Level CRE Programme Inaugurated in Bhubaneswar | Odisha Govt Focuses on Early Intervention

Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: The Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the State Institute of Special Education and Research (SISER), inaugurated the State-level Continuous Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programme in Bhubaneswar today.

Social Security and Empowerment Minister Nityananda Gond, attending as chief guest at the Lok Seva Bhavan Conference Hall, underscored the importance of early care and treatment in controlling disabilities.

Highlighting this year’s theme, “Importance of Early Intervention for Multiple Disabilities,” he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing quality services and empowering persons with disabilities.

The minister announced that rehabilitation centres have already been established at district and block levels through DDRCs, IICs, and other institutions.

These centres provide treatment, special education, and integrated physical and mental care.

To strengthen inclusive education, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has initiated the recruitment of 1,500 special educators to support children with disabilities in mainstream schools.

Director IAS Parul Patwari emphasised therapies such as speech and occupational therapy for children with physical disabilities and autism, stressing the need for early evaluation, continuous planning, and family involvement.

The CRE session witnessed participation from around 150 attendees, including senior officials Rajani Jani, Dr Smruti Mahapatra, Jitendra Biswal, and others, who shared insights on rehabilitation and empowerment strategies.

The programme reinforced Odisha’s commitment to building an inclusive society by combining infrastructure, specialised educators, assistive devices, livelihood support, and awareness initiatives.
