Srimandir Bans Mobile Phones, Introduces Walkie-Talkies for Seamless Temple Security

In a landmark move to enhance security and preserve sanctity, the Srimandir Security Committee has announced a complete ban on mobile phones inside the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

The decision, which applies to all visitors, servitors, and even police personnel, was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by committee chief Girish Chandra Murmu.

To ensure uninterrupted communication among temple staff and security personnel, a walkie-talkie system will be introduced.

Authorities emphasised that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernise temple management while safeguarding spiritual traditions.

The committee also discussed measures for crowd control, surveillance, and emergency response. Secure lockers will be installed for visitors to store their devices before entering the temple premises.

Officials clarified that the changes aim to improve the visitor experience, not inconvenience devotees.

Security personnel will undergo training to operate the new communication system efficiently. Additionally, the committee plans to study safety protocols from other major temples across India before implementing further reforms.

Public response has been mixed, with many supporting the initiative for its focus on discipline, safety, and spiritual ambience. Authorities assured that the rollout will be gradual and carried out with public cooperation.
